Women's hammer record falls

May 05, 2007

For the fifth time in six meets, the St. Thomas women's track and field school record in the hammer throw has been broken. Tommie junior Carol Comp improved her record and moved her NCAA provisional best by three inches as she took first in 155-6 at Saturday's St. Thomas Invite. Comp also won the discus (133-7).

The Tommie women, who held out several athletes to rest for next weekend's MIAC Championships, won five other events. St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth also competed in the windy, wet conditions.

Sheena Porter Wrzos swept the 100 (12.71) and the 200 (25.96) and ran on the winning 4x100 relay (48.46). Kalsey Larson won the 800 (2:28.56). Nikki Arola won the 400 hurdles (68.30).

UST had 10 runner-up finishers -- Shara Guidry in the shot put (40-7); Selina Dehn in the high jump (5-3); Katie Theisen in the triple jump (35-5); Arola in the 100 (12.93); Shionna Evans in the 400 (59.85); Julie Anderson in the 800 (2:28.58); Laura Janas in the 100 hurdles (15.99); the 4x400 relay (4:10.35); Kyley Crotty in the javelin (98-10); and Christine Frandsen in the steeplechase (12:23.12).

Thirds were recorded by Theisen in the long jump (16-9 1-4); Evans in the 100 (13.20); Kelly Russ in the 400 (60.96); and Liz Kapsner in the discus (113-4).
