Program Outlook

St. Thomas annually fields competitive tennis teams with high-quality individuals. Terry Peck is beginning his 19th season at St. Thomas and 14th as women’s head coach, Peck coached his 500th college match in 2008 and has won more than 70% of his matches. His teams are consistent top-four conference finishers, and over the last nine seasons have built a 162-43 record.

The 2008 Tommie women took second in the conference and finished 17-4. UST finished 16-3 in 2005 duals and placed third in the conference. Senior Jodi Dmohoski broke the school record for career wins as she finished 34-6 over the last two seasons and 70-14 overall on her career.

UST went 16-4 in 2004 duals and finished fourth in the MIAC standings. The Toms placed second in the MIAC with in 2001 with a 15-6 dual record. The 2002 team was conference runner-up and reached the national playoffs for the first time in a decade. They finished 19-4 and lost in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. The 2003 Tommies also took second in the conference and reached the second round of the NCAA playoffs. They finished with the No. 18 ranking and finished 19-4.

The Tommies posted dual-meet records of 16-3 in 1999 and 13-4 in 2000, and placed third in the MIAC both seasons. The 2001 team was conference runner-up, won MIAC individual titles at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, and finished 15-6 in dual meets.

St. Thomas has newly resurfaced tennis courts indoors at Coughlan Field House and will have new outdoor courts on the south campus in 2010.

The women’s tennis team has approximately 12 members. The Tommies take an annual spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. They also play the best teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
