With four top-10 national finishes in the last seven seasons, St. Thomas women’s golf has established itself as one of the top 15 programs in NCAA Division III.
The Tommies have also won seven consecutive MIAC team championships. In the last nine conference meets, the Tommies have had 28 all-conference honors, and won medalist honors six times.
In 2004-05, senior Katie Glorvigen was chosen conference Player of the Year and also was voted a CoSIDA Academic All-American, while freshman Holly Noble was voted MIAC Rookie of the Year.
The 2005-06 Tommies were ranked as high as third in Division III, and Maureen Hardwick was MIAC medalist.
The 2006-07 Tommies placed fifth out 18 teams in the national meet and were ranked as high as third in the nation. Noble was selected All-American and MIAC Player of the Year, and freshman Laura Heck was an honorable mention All-American.
The 2007-08 Tommies won the conference meet by 19 strokes behind medalist and MIAC Player of the Year Laura Heck and placed seventh in the national meet. Heck and Holly Noble were named All-Americans.
Sara Evens took over as head coach in spring 2005 and was chosen MIAC Coach of the Year in 2005-06. Evens, a pro at St. Paul's Town & Country Golf Club the previous seven years, played college golf for the Minnesota Gophers (1989-93). Now in her second college coaching post, Evens has continued the progress made by Cathy Lombritto, who guided the program the previous eight seasons. Lombritto was named MIAC Coach of the Year after her Tommies took conference championships in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
The team competes in both the fall and spring seasons. Approximately 20 athletes try out each year for about 12 spots on the varsity and junior-varsity teams. The Tommies play and practice at many challenging courses in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota and usually make a spring trip to Georgia.
