Women's Golf finishes 17th at NCAAs

Steph Hird shot shot 80 on Saturday and St. Thomas placed 17th of 21 teams in the 72-hole NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Toms, playing without injured All-American Laura Heck, shot 338 on Wednesday, 343 on Thursday, 344 on Friday and . They finished 11 strokes behind Wartburg.

Amy Anderson (80-78-84-84/326) tied for 24th overall in a field of 111 players to lead the Tommies, followed by Hird (88-86-78-80/332); Katie Mich (85-90-87-87/349); Megan Owens (85-89-95-82/351); and Shannon Richter (90-95-99-103/397).

Defending champ Methodist won by 25 strokes. UW-Stevens Point topped third-place Gustavus by 15 and fourth place Southwestern by 16.

The Toms, playing without injured All-American Laura Heck, shot 338 on Wednesday, 343 on Thursday and 344 on Friday. They sit seven strokes behind Wheaton College.

Defending champ Methodist has opened a 19-stroke lead on second-place UW-Stevens Point, while Gustavus 12 shots behind Point.

Amy Anderson (80-78-84/242) is tied for 17th overall in a field of 111 players and leads the Tommies, followed by Hird (88-86-78/252); Katie Mich (85-90-87/262); Megan Owens (85-89-95/269); and Shannon Richter (90-95-99/284).

Thursday story

Amy Anderson shot 78 on Thursday to move into the top 15 out of 111 players at the halfway point of the Player pic72-hole NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Toms play 18 holes Friday and conclude with 18 on Saturday.

UST remains in 16th place out of 21 teams. The Toms shot 338 on Wednesday and came back to shoot 343 on Thursday.

Defending champ Methodist has a nine-stroke lead on UW-Stevens Point, Southwestern (Texas) is 15 back and Gustavus is 16 back. First-round leader UW-Eau Claire is tied for fifth place, 21 back.

Anderson (80-78/158) (shown at right) is tied for 13th overall and leads the Tommies, followed by Stephanie Hird (88-86/174); Megan Owens (85-89/184); Katie Mich (85-90/175); and Shannon Richter (90-95/185).

Wednesday story

Playing without injured All-American Laura Heck, the Tommie women's golf team sits in 16th place out of 21 teams after Wednesday's opening round of the NCAA Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

UST shot 338 and is 12 shots out of the top 10 with three 18-hole rounds to go. UW-Eau Claire shot 312 and leads St. Lawrence by six strokes. Eleven other teams are bunched from 321-329, including Gustavus at 322.

Amy Anderson shot 80 and is tied for 28th in a field of 111 players. Katie Mich and Megan Owens shot 85s, Stephanie Hird shot 88 and Shannon Richter shot 90.
