
The St. Thomas men's golf team put four players in the top 20 and tied for second with Gustavus, while the Tommie women's golf team placed third in the 10-team MIAC Championships.
The three-day, 54-hole tournaments concluded Monday at Coon Rapids' Bunker Hills Golf Course.
St. John's (men) and Gustavus (women) repeated as team champions by double-digit margins.
St. Ben's topped the Tommie women by 11 strokes for second place. The UST women played without injured senior Laura Heck, the 2007 and 2008 MIAC meet medalist.
Seniors Amy Anderson and Katie Mich received All-MIAC distinction. Anderson shot 79-85-76/240 and finished in a three-way tie for second, four strokes behind medalist Katie Schenfeld of Gustavus. Mich was ninth at 88-83-80/251.
St. Thomas and Gustavus took second at 901. It was the second runner-up finish at the MIAC men's golf tourney in five seasons under Coach Dave Lepp.
SJU's Tony Krogen had rounds of 72-67-74/213 and won by six strokes over the runner-up, UST junior Sean Barrett, in a field of 50 players.
Barrett and senior James Stafford made All-MIAC with top-10 individual finishes.
Barrett repeated as All-MIAC as he carded rounds of 73-73-73/219. He was the lone player to shoot 73 or better each round.
Stafford, who had a playoff with teammate Bill Mulvahill last Friday to determine UST's fifth lineup spot, shot 72-75-78/225 to tie for sixth.
Grant Shafranski tied for 13th at 76-76-76/228. John Young tied for 19th at 77-76-77/230. Mike Mortenson was 28th at 80-80-77/237, and his Monday score was used to help UST secure a tie for second place.
For the women, Shannon Richter tied for 19th at 88-86-89/263; Cassy Norton shot 86-93-92/271; and Kelly Westerham shot 95-93-94/282.
The UST men will compete in the three-day Twin Cities Classic next weekend at various courses.

Gustavus shot 332 and leads UST by nine strokes. The Toms have a six stroke lead on Carleton and St. Ben's and a seven-stroke cushion on St. Olaf.
Cassy Norton shot 86 and is tied for 11th; Katie Mich and Shannon Richter are tied for 18th after both shot 88s; and Kelly Westerham shot 95.
