Laura Heck gets MIAC weekly honor

Tommie junior Laura Heck was named MIAC Golfer of the Week on Tuesday after she won medalist honors at last Saturday’s Wartburg Spring Invite.

It was Heck’s sixth such conference honor in the last 19 months.Heck won medalist honors for  her fifth time this school year and eighth time in her last 16 matches. Last October, Heck repeated as MIAC meet medalist as she shot 77-81-80/238 to win by five strokes and beat the other 49 players in the field. She became the fourth two-time MIAC meet medalist in women's golf. UST has had the meet medalist six of the last seven seasons.

Heck had a 78.5 stroke average in 11 fall rounds and has shot 75 and 76 in two spring events.

The Tommies will compete Friday and Saturday in the 10-team Carleton tournament. The field includes No. 2-ranked Gustavus, No. 3-ranked UW-Stevens Point, No. 6-ranked UST, No. 11 UW-Eau Claire, No. 15 UW-Whitewater and No. 25 Carleton and four other MIAC teams.
