No. 10-ranked St. Thomas claimed a share of the MIAC championship with Saturday's 3-0 win at Augsburg. The Tommies (24-6 overall, 10-1 MIAC) won 25-9, 25-18, 25-11 over the fourth-place Auggies (7-13, 6-5), who are playoff bound for the first time in school history.
St. Ben's topped Concordia in three sets on Saturday to match the Tommies' 10-1 record. The Blazers get the top seed for the playoffs based on their 3-1 October win over UST.
It's the first conference championship of the fall for St. Thomas. Coach Thanh Pham has now won five MIAC titles in seven seasons with Tommie volleyball, including three in a row, and the Toms improved to 41-1 against MIAC opponents over the last three seasons.
The Tommies have a first-round bye for the conference playoffs. They will play a Thursday night home match -- at Concordia U.'s Gangelhoff Center -- against the St. Olaf-St.Mary's winner.
Katie Bonine and Tori Jones posted 17 and 11 kills respectively, while setter Emily Foster collected 40 assists, and libero Kaitlin Wachter recorded a game-high 14 digs.
