The St. Thomas volleyball team continued its brief spring practice term with Saturday's home scrimmage against a Tommie alumni team. Using new NCAA scoring guidelines to be implemented next fall, the UST varsity defeated the UST Alumni in a close five-set match.
Under new NCAA rules, games are now called "sets" and are played to 25 instead of 30. The scores were 25-23, 23-25,16-25, 25-20, 15-12. Captain and first-team AVCA All-American Katie McCaffrey ended the match with a huge kill off a pass from from Emily Foster.
The Alumni were led by last year's captains, Katie Zazverskey and Kristin Storrs. Other alums who played were Baylee Reagan, Julia Novak, Megan Bergseth, Hannah Meium, Stephanie Blanda and Jill Kraus.
Coach Thanh Pham's team wraps up its spring practices this week, and will then prepare for its early-summer trip to Italy. It will mark the first time in the program's history that Tommie volleyball is traveling overseas. The trip will take place June 4th-14th.
