No. 26-ranked St. Thomas put three runners in the top 40, led by junior Alex Fossum, and placed sixth of 36 teams at the Oshkosh invitational.
No. 5-ranked Washington (Mo.) won with 94 followed in the next nine by No. 8 Calvin (Mich.) (113), No. 20 U of Chicago (137), St. Norbert (173), No. 14 Hope (Mich.) (210), St. Thomas (220), Wartburg (Iowa) 241), No. 29 UW-Eau Claire (246), and No. 17 UW-Oshkosh (272).
Fossum took 15th (22:26) in a field of 528 finishers, senior Kayla Janto sprinted to 24th (22:32), and senior Bridget McGivern was 37th (22:57). Jenny Walz, Grace Loeslie and Melissa Marsh came in together in the 79, 81 and 82 spots (23:25), and Megan Gossfeld was 114th (23:44). Bridget Schmitt took 120th (23:46) and Sara Ness placed 124th (23:47).
UST competes Oct. 29 at the conference meet.
UW-La Crosse Invite
St. Thomas also had a contingent at Saturday's UW-La Crosse Invite and placed 13th out of 22 teams.
UW-Lacrosse, Nebraska Wesleyan and the University of Minnesota claimed the top-three team places.
The Tommies were lead by Katie Breuckman, who finished 42nd with a time of 23:53. Molly Clarke (54th, 24:09), Ali Glassbrenner (61st, 24:20), Jenny Launder (102, 25:07) and Julia Giefer (111th, 25:14) rounded out the top five for St. Thomas.
