ST. PAUL - Junior transfer Tyler Oliver scored in the 77th minute to send the St. Thomas men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over North Central College at South Field on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Tommies improve to 4-0-1 to open the season unbeaten through the first five games for the first time since 2012.  Meanwhile, North Central drops to 1-2-1 overall.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes.  Although the Tommies outshot the Cardinals 8-2 in the first half, just two were on goal and the Tommie men were held scoreless.

North Central held the shot advantage in the second half (4-3), but it was St. Thomas who came away with the only score of the contest in the 77th minute, as it flexed an advantage of 4-1 in shots on goal for the game.

Oliver received a cross from junior Josh Boris and finished it off to score his third goal of the year and send the Tommies on to the win, as the Purple defense held strong for the remaining 13-plus minutes.

In goal, Aidan Hogan recorded his second win of the season in a one-save effort.  His counterpart, Sebastian Garcia made three saves in the loss.

The Tommies will be back in action next week when they travel to Saint John's on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
