Friday Wrap: M-W Hockey teams fall

No. 11-ranked Augsburg raced to a 4-0 second-period lead but Tommie Men's Hockey pushed the Auggies to the brink before falling 5-3.

Augsburg iced the game with an empty-net goal in the final six seconds.

That late score ended UST's string of three goals in a 16:33 span with two by Brett Gravelle and another by Thomas Williams.

Augsburg and St. Mary's moved back atop the conference standings by one point at 29, one ahead of the Tommies. St. Mary's has just one MIAC game remaining, as the Auggies and Tommies play three more.

UST (11-7-4 overall, 9-3-1 MIAC) plays at Augsburg Saturday night (7 p.m.).

Women's Hockey

No.-10 ranked and first-place Augsburg scored a 3-0 home-ice win over St. Thomas in Friday night's women's hockey clash in Minneapolis.

The teams play again Saturday in Mendota Heights (7:30 p.m.).
