Men's Hockey can't overcome slow start in 2-1 loss

Sophomore transfer Tanner Barnes scored his first collegiate goal, but Tommie Men's Hockey fell 2-1 to UW-Superior in non-conference play Saturday night on neutral ice in Willmar, Minn.

St. Thomas (1-2-1) outshot Superior 38-19 but was unable to get the tying goal in the final period.

The Yellowjackets scored in the first two minutes and another goal in the sixth minute for a quick 2-0 lead.

Barnes scored with 2:03 left to play in the second period, assisted by Johnny Roisum. Devin Tappenden had 17 saves.

The Toms have allowed just five goals in their last three games but are only 1-1-1 in that span.

St. Thomas opens MIAC play Nov. 11-12 against Gustavus.
