St. Thomas Men's Golf surged on the last day and tied for the day's best score at 293 in a field of 18 elite teams at the Golfweek Invitational.
The Toms' climbed from 16th to 10th place in the final standings. After an opening-day 299, UST shot 316 on Monday and rebounded with Tuesday's 293.
Junior Riley Gannon shot a career-best three-under 69 on Tuesday. He closed in 10th place in a field of 90 competitors at four-over 220.
Emmet Herb birdied his first hole on Tuesday then parred the final 17 holes for a 71 to go with previous rounds of 73 and 85. Herb and Shane Sienko (77) tied for 38th place. Pete Sienko (76) tied for 56th.
Just 14 shots separated the fourth-place team from the 16th-place finisher. Huntingdon scored a 21-stroke win over runner-up Wittenberg. Three MIAC teams were in the field: St. Johns tied for ninth at 905; UST shot 908; and Gustavus tied for 13th at 910.
The Toms play Saturday through Monday in the Twin Cities Classic.

No. 2 at St. John's
The Tommie No. 2 team placed eighth out of 13 teams at the St. John's Invite with scores of 310 and 309. Trey Sheehan shot 80-71/151 to tie for 12th and the lead the UST players. Owen Nowickis shot 77-77/154.
