Men's Golf takes fourth of 18 at Eau Claire

Final scoring

Shane Sienko shot a 76 on Monday and tied for 10th place individually to lead St. Thomas Men's Golf in the final round of the 36-hole Eau Claire Wrigglesworth Invite.

UST had rounds of 311 and 309 for a 620 total and closed in fourth place among 18 teams, 12 shots out of third place, and two shots ahead of UW-Stout and Eau Claire's No. 2 team.

The host UW-Eau Claire Blugolds (596), Gustavus (606), Augsburg (608) placed first through third. Seven MIAC teams competed.

Shane Sienko was tied for fifth among MIAC players.

Matt Mellin shot 77-80/157 as an indiidual and tied for 22nd.

Pete Sienko (80-78/158) and Owen Nowicki (77-81/158) tied for 28th. Derek Farrell shot 77-82/159.

Tommie freshman Emmet Herb opened with an 87 but shot 74 on Monday to tie for the sixth-low score among 96 players and close at 161.

The Toms will send a team to Florida next weekend for the Golfweek Invite tournament.

 

Sunday story

St. Thomas Men's Golf is in fifth place among 18 teams after Sunday's round one ot the UW-Eau Claire Wrigglesworth event. The two-day, 36-hole tourney concludes Monday in Eau Claire, Wis.

UST starts Monday just five shots out of third place. UW-Eau Claire shot 296, Gustavus posted a 303, Augsburg and UW-Stout shot 306, and the Tommies are next at 311.

Four Tommies -- Derek Farrell, Owen Nowicki, Shane Sienko and Matt Mellin -- had identical rounds of 77 to lead St. Thomas. They all tied for 14th place in a field of 96 players.

Riley Gannon shot 78 and is tied for 25th, while Alex Syverson carded a 79 for 27th. Pete Sienko and Ben Kisla each shot 80 to share 36th place.

The Toms will send a team to Florida next weekend for the Golfweek Invite tournament.

 

Gophers Invite

St. Thomas also had five players compete in the 54-hole U of M Gopher Individual tournament in Maple Plain. These athletes were in addition to the main multi-team tournament with mostly Division I teams:
