Senior guard Grant Shaeffer celebrated his 100th career game with a team-best 20 points and the visiting Tommies shot 62 percent from the floor in Wednesday night's 100-65 conference men's basketball win at St. Mary's.
The Tommies (11-4 overall, 7-3 MIAC) had only five turnovers and used a 49-18 advantage in bench points as they posted the program's first 100-point game in four seasons.
A 22-4 St. Thomas run on each side of halftime built a 31-point lead at 56-25.
Wylie Ferron scored a game-best 22 points for the Cardinals (5-9, 3-7).
UST closes the first half of the 20-game MIAC schedule tied for second place, one game behind leader St. John's, and tied with Hamline and Bethel. St. John's rallied from seven down in the final 40 seconds to force OT and won by two, and Bethel lost by two on a Concordia layup at the buzzer.
St. Thomas is home Saturday to face Augsburg.
