MINNEAPOLIS – No. 12-ranked St Thomas was down 42-32 at the half but rallied to tie the game at 67-67 with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Augsburg responded with eight consecutive points to down the Tommies 76-70 at Si Melby Hall on Saturday afternoon.
The Tommies had five players score in double figures but it wasn't enough in Saturday's 76-70 road loss at Augsburg. The Auggies (3-3 overall, 2-0 MIAC) had 33 bench points compared to 24 for the Tommies.
Michael Hannon had 15 points, Grant Shaeffer added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jordan Burich had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Toms (4-2, 1-1), who had a four-game win streak halted. John Veil also had 11 points and Ryan Boll scored 10 points.
St. Thomas outrebounded Augsburg 37-31 but also committed more turnovers as they had 13 while the Auggies committed nine. Augsburg took advantage of this margin by scoring 21 points off of Tommie turnovers.
The Tommies shot 40.4-percent (23-57) from the floor on the afternoon and 33.3-percent (8-24) from three and the Auggies shot 46.3-percent (25-54) from the field on the afternoon and 42.1-percent (8-19) from deep.
St. Thomas will look to rebound on Wednesday night as they host Hamline at Schoenecker Arena. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip.
