Baseball alone in MIAC lead after road split

Sophomore lefty Henry DeCaster threw a four-hit shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts as Tommie Baseball posted a 3-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead in game one of Saturday's twinbill in Moorhead.

The Cobbers scored a 10-8 victory in game two for a split on the day. That Cobber win ended UST's win streak at seven.

St. Thomas (11-9 overall, 5-1 MIAC) sits alone in first place atop the conference as Bethel dropped two games at St. Olaf. Bethel, St. John's, Macalester and Gustavus are all at 4-2, one game back in the 20-game MIAC race.

DeCaster (4-0) retired the last 12 batters he faced and only had one Cobber advance past first base. Over his last four starts, DeCaster is 3-0 with an 0.66 ERA, with 33 strikeouts and seven walks over 27.1 innings.

Sophomore Sam Cobbs went 5-for-7 on the day with two walks and raised his team-best average to .441.

Freshman Sam Schneider went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the opener and was 2-for-3 in game two.

Sophomore Charlie Callahan, making his first varsity start, hit a grand slam in game two but UST's rally fell short. He went 2-for-5.

St. Thomas got 21 hits on the day from 10 different players.

The Tommies are home Tuesday to face St. Mary's in a doubleheader at Koch Diamond.
