Pitching leads Baseball in home sweep

Senior Caleb Fernholz and junior Drew Molin combined to allow one run with 16 strikeouts over 14 innings in Thursday's 4-1, 2-0 non-conference baseball sweep for the host Tommies over UW-Stout.

St. Thomas (7-8) made the most of 12 hits from nine different players on the day. Zach Gottfredsen, Sam Cobbs and Sam Schneider hit solo home runs in the opener.

Fernholz allowed five hits, one run, one walk and fanned five. He recorded his first career complete game in his ninth start

Molin struck out 11 and scattered five hits in his complete-game shutout victory.

Logan Kohorst and freshman Dan Bolingberg had RBI singles in the second inning to provide the game's lone scoring.

Over the last eight games, Tommie starters have posted a 2.06 earned-run average.

St. Thomas is home Saturday to open MIAC play against St. Olaf in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
