Softball soars to 19-3 win at NCAA regional

Freshman Genny Duffy hit a pair of three-run homers and senior Sydney Marquardt was 3-for-3 with a homer as St. Thomas (41-4) stormed to a 19-3 win over Ripon Friday in the double-elimination NCAA Diviison III softball regional in Eau Claire, Wis.  

The 18th-ranked Toms will face No. 4-rated Luther (39-4) Saturday at 4 p.m. in the winners' bracket.   UST scored seven runs in the first inning and five more in the second. On the night the Toms slapped 12 hits and took advantage of 11 walks as they ran their winning streak to 31 games.  

Duffy, Becky Eischens and Megan Sitek each had two hits.  

UST has posted 48 runs and 62 hits in a 5-0 postseason run thus far over the last eight days.
