University of St. Thomas Football and head coach Glenn Caruso are profiled in a cover story in the March-April edition of the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) Magazine, a periodical viewed by national high school and college football coaches.
The AFCA's Michael Austin interviewed Caruso and wrote a story on the Tommies' current transition to the Football Championship Subcommittee (FCS) level of Division I.

This spring, St. Thomas is closing out its Division III and MIAC chapters by playing at least one game and a couple of scrimmages after losing the fall 2020 season due to the Covid outbreak. The coach has already begun to adjust his roster down to a target of 110 players by this summer, including 29 current high school seniors who have signed to play with the Purple starting next fall.
The transition continues in earnest in August as St. Thomas starts play in the Pioneer Football League.
The coach is preparing for the challenges of joining a strong league like the Pioneer and the overall learning curve that accompanies this unique opportunity.
"The way we approach the daily interactions is not going to change very much," Caruso explains of the move from Division III to Division I. "The way we set it up when we got here 13 years ago was based off a FCS model. Sure, some things have to change, but the bigger, pleasant surprise is how much they are going to stay the same."
