Brian Sames and Kyle Brandon hit NCAA provisional qualifying times Friday in day one of the UC-Irvine Spring Break Invite. Sames was third in 3:51.92 -- just off the NCAA automatic time of 3:51.92. Brandon ran 3:52.72 for fifth.
Sames came back Saturday with a second NCAA provisional time, this one in the 800 meters, as he clocked 1:52.84. Brandon (1:54.02), Greg Dowe (1:54.60), Matt Boumeester (1:57.36) and Evan Schwartz (1:57.75) also ran the 800.
Pat Jager just missed NCAA provo times in the 200 (ran 21.93, provo 21.80) and 400 (ran 45.55, provo 48.50). Phil Bastron ran 11.23 in the 100 and 22.28 in the 200. Luke Sames ran 22.95 in the 200 and 49.94 in the 400. Also in the 200, Joe DeFrance ran 22.21 and Joe Rohfing ran 22.61.
In the steeplechase, Mike Connell placed fourth in 9:38.06, with Seth Rosvold placed eighth (9:52), Rorak Hooten took ninth (9:53) and Tyler Iverson was 10th (9:54).
In Saturday's 1,500, Ben Sathre clocked 4:03.05. In the 110 hurdles, Matt Griswold clocked 15.48, Cam Roemhildt clocked 16.18, and Rohlfing was timed in 18.90. In the 400 hurdles, Griswold was timed in 56.15.
Andrew Brueggen was seventh in the hammer (156-0) and 15th in the discus (133-6). In the high jump, Brian pink cleared 6-0 3-4. In the pole vault, Chris Victor went 13-7 1-4 and Ben Michel and Anthony Kelly cleared 13-1 1-2. In the shot put, Devin Dirth threw 45-2 1-4.
