Sathre, Statz sharp in 10K at Drake Relays
April 26, 2012Tommie senior Ben Sathre placed third in a field of 31 runners Thursday night in the 10,000 meters at the Drake Relays in Des Moines.
Sathre, the Division III national champion in cross country last fall, clocked 29:52.43 for the 25-lap race. He topped 13 Division I runners along the way. The top eight runners were separated by just 12 seconds.
Sathre's time is the sixth fastest thus far this spring in Division III. He also had the third-best 5,000 time of 14:17.20 recorded last weekend at the Mount Sac (Calif.) Relays.
Tommie sophomore Erin Statz placed 19th of 27 in the women's 10,000. She clocked 36:41.76 in her first attempt at the track 10,000.
