Steve Murphy scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in his third game as a Tommie as visiting St. Thomas (9-9-4 overall, 6-5-2 MIAC) scored a 4-3 win over the host Oles in MIAC men's hockey play Friday night in Northfield.
Joe Schraeder stopped 28 shots as the Tommies reached .500 for the first time since Dec. 4. It was UST's second one-goal win over the Oles in Northfield this season. The teams played a non-conference game there in November, which the Toms won 5-4.
The teams close the weekend set Saturday (7 p.m.) on UST's home ice in Mendota Heights.
Andrew Kappers had a goal and an assist and Alex Arnason had two assists. Arnason has four goals and seven assists in the last six games to help UST go 4-1-1 in that span.
Riley Horgan's goal late in period two put the Toms ahead 3-2.
Ten seconds into the last period, Murphy scored for a two-goal cushion. The Oles cut the deficit to 4-3 with Joel Lundstrom's goal with 2:24 remaining in the game.
Murphy had a goal and two assists in last Friday's 4-3 win over St. Mary's, his former team. Murphy transferred to UST in January.
