The St. Thomas men's hockey team battled to the end but dropped a 3-1 road decision to No. 7-ranked Gustavus in Wednesday's NCAA first-round game in St. Peter.
UST closes its season 13-11-4.
Gustavus (20-6-2) plays Saturday at St. Norbert in the national quarterfinals. The Gusties outshot the Toms 40-19 and avenged a 2-1 loss to UST seven days earlier.
Joe Schraeder made 37 saves for the Toms.
UST trailed 2-0 when Parker Burgess scored with 6:20 left to pull within 2-1. But the Gusties' Ross Ring-Jarvi scored a power-play goal in the final 3:00 to regain a two-goal lead.
