Tommie men's basketball coach Steve Fritz will appear live Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Central time on D3Hoops.com's Hoopsville audio webcast. The show is scheduled to run between 1-3 p.m.
Fritz, who coached his 800th varsity game this week, saw his Tommies win their eighth consecutive game -- all in a 22-day stretch -- with Saturday's 58-55 win over Carleton.
With Findlay (Ohio)'s Thursday night loss, the Tommies (19-2 overall, 15-1 MIAC) now have the best record in the last two seasons out of 1,006 NCAA men's basketball teams. UST is 49-3.
The No. 5-ranked Toms secured a share of the program's fifth consecutive MIAC title -- a feat accomplished just twice previously in conference history by Hamline (1931-36) and St. Thomas (1969-1974). The Toms will claim the outright title with one win or one Gustavus loss in four game over the last 11 days of the season.
It's the 20th MIAC hoops title that Fritz has been associated with as a head coach (15), assistant coach (three) and player (two). Fritz has been on the sideline or court for 1,160 consecutive games.
St. Thomas was ranked third in the West Region coaches' poll last week, but the teams ahead of it, UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point, both lost last week, possibly openign the door for a UST move to No. 1.
