Six members of Coach Glenn Caruso's 2008 St. Thomas football recruiting class were invited to the June 28 Minnesota High School All-Star Game in St. Cloud. The six recruits were the most of any college, and future Tommies received two of the game's four MVP honors.

QB Greg Morse of St. Paul's Como Park helped the Metro team post a 22-17 victory as he threw TD passes to fellow Tommie recruit Fritz Waldvogel (St. Thomas Academy). Morse completed 8-of-11 passes for 200 yards, two TDs and no interceptions and was chosen Metro Offensive MVP.

Waldvogel caught three passes for 80 yards.  Jesse Amar of Andover had three tackles and a pass break-up for the Metro team.

Brainerd's Mike Valesano had six tackles and was chosen Outstate Defensive MVP. Another Tommie recruit on the Outstate team was Dakota Tracy of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.

Fridley's Blake Cook was also selected but did not play due to previous commitments.

St. Thomas baseball recruit Brad Weiers of New Prague also competed for the Outstate team and had two catches for 45 yards.

"I am very proud of the efforts of these young men and equally proud that there are the nucleus of this program's future," Coach Caruso said. "We believe that we had a tremendous recruiting class this past offseason with a variety of talent. What we saw here tonight was just a small portion of that talent.  What excites me most is the bond that these eight and our entire class has been able to forge already.  When you get this many people on board for the common good, it is a powerful force. These eight young men represented the University and the program with class and style, and that is largely why I am so excited about them."
