Baseball now No. 2 in both polls

St. Thomas remained at No. 2 in this week’s D3Baseball.com poll announced today. Coach Chris Olean’s Tommies received 7 of 24 first-place votes and sit behind only Marietta (16 first-place votes). They were unranked in the first D3baseball poll of season after 28-18 finish in 2011 and have climbed from No. 25 to 23 to 19 to 13 to 7 to 5 to 3 and to 2 last week.

UW-Stevens Point (No. 14) and UW-LaCrosse (No. 19) are the only other Midwest Region teams ranked in the poll.

The Tommies also moved up from No. 4 to No. 2 in this week’s ABCA Coaches’ poll. They received one of the eight first-place votes. . UST has climbed in the ABCA poll from No. 13 to 10 to 8 to 7 to 4 and now this week to No. 2.

The Tommies (30-4 overall, 18-0 MIAC) play D-I Minnesota at Siebert Field today. This will be the final game played at Siebert. Last season, the Tommies were able to top the Gopher 8-3 at Siebert in a key victory that helped spark a late season win-streak. They will also travel down to St. Peter to play their final MIAC double header of the season and have a chance to complete their first 20-0 MIAC regular season record.
