Tommie seniors Charles Bruchu and John Licht have been named to the CoSIDA 12-man Academic All-District VI Baseball team for Division III. The duo, who helped the 30-5 Toms win the conference championship and secure a No. 2 national ranking, goes onto the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Bruchu, who has a 3.67 grade-point average in Biology, is a repeat All-District honoree. Licht has a 3.75 in Business and Accounting.
Bruchu has 36 hits and 28 RBI in 35 games and has raised his batting average to .335. A 2011 All-MIAC honoree, Bruchu has played in 127 career games with a .333 average, 143 hits, 93 runs, 82 RBI, 20 doubles, seven HRs, five triples, .459 slugging%, .398 on-base%, 43 walks and 14 sacrifices. Bruchu has only one error in last 56 defensive chances this season. A two-time first-team all-conference honoree, Bruchu has six hits in the last two meetings against the D-I Minnesota Gophers.
Licht is 1-2 with a 5.2 ERA this season. He had a key complete-game shutout win over UW-Stevens Point in the 2009 NCAA Regional elimination game as freshman that helped Toms reach World Series. in 40 career appearances he's 13-6 with five saves, 3.98 ERA, 116 innings, 68 strikeouts with 30 walks. He got the win in relief last year vs. the Minnesota Gophers.
